Kamron,
This is Drew Harris...I met you at Quest Air this year. I'm one of the tandem instructors and run the ground crew during the comps there (beard, dark hair). I test flew the Horizons that you brought.
First off, I'd like to congratulate y'all on a huge success with the Horizon. It flies and performs exactly as you described and was the exact glider that you were trying to make. A perfect first glider for new pilots that will take them farther into their intermediate flying after allowing them to grow from beginners, through novice, and into intermediate pilots.
On that note...
I'm currently teaching at Kitty Hawk Kites in North Carolina. I’d call right now, but it's 5am where you are! Anyway, we're very interested in having a Horizon here for our new instructors and new H-2 pilots to demo, we usually end up selling a lot of Sonics (brand new) or Pulse's and Mark IV's (used), however our pilots often outgrow these gliders fairly quickly. I feel that the Horizon is easier to learn on, land, tow, handle than other wings like it.
Thanks!, Drew
Dear North Wing,
Hey again!
Thanks for the info.
I just got back from the hill (Lookout Mtn near Golden, Colorado) and just had my third flite on the Horizon ET. Takeoff is at 6800. All the paragliders had given up and sledded down. There was an RC sailplane out in front and started circling up very rapidly.
I jumped off at 6:15 PM and stole the thermal and took it to 9300 in baby butt smooth air. I got an hour before it switched off and couldn't find another bump till I hit the LZ. Very SWEEEEET! Only one other glider tried to launch and he sledded to the LZ. The sail is very clean even with loose VG. I kept pushing out on the bar at altitude to try and stall but it never broke.
Nice machine!
Glenn
Dear North Wing
Thank you for making the Horizon. I have about 5 hours on it so far, the last 2 flights 1 hour plus. Flies great! I have a top row spot in the club's storage container and I really appreciate the light weight. Hope you like the picture.
Thanks,
Tom Shaffer
I had the pleasure of test-flying the Horizon 160 this summer. My first flight was after a nine-month break from hang-gliding, but the glider's smooth handling on tow immediately gave me full confidence. My next HG flight was off a mountain, and I had a four-hour blast with the Horizon! This longer flight allowed me to better explore its well-balanced characteristics. I found the glider a pleasure to thermal, easily centering myself in tight cores. The Horizon nicely holds its track and speed even with full VG, making it a breeze to explore the sky for the next thermal. The Horizon was sweet on approach and landing, and will certainly fit most pilots like a glove. Well done, North Wing!
