The Maverick 2 Legend Ultralight Trike is the result of years of ultralight trike design refinement.  The design of both the trike and the wing has been enhanced to include features that benefit flight performance, improve set-up convenience, add storage space, and more.  The Maverick 2 is a "state of the art", highly refined low profile single-place trike.  This trike comes in two choices for you: Maverick 2 Legend (streamlined fairing) and Maverick 2 RT (no fairing).  We are proud of our extremely comfortable seating, a must for long flights.  High ground clearance is another terrific feature for off-field landings.

The Maverick 2 trike frame has been extended to maximize storage space behind the pilot, enable additional fuel storage, camping equipment, and anything that fits in the space and maintains acceptable weight limits.  We also changed the folding design of the trike mast, so only the mast pivots just above the seat rail and now includes a spring-assisted mast, as our two-place light sport aircraft have.  The spring-assisted mast on the Maverick 2 reduces the effort required to lift the wing into position, reducing the effort from lifting 83 lbs of wing to only 15 lbs!  View more Maverick 2 Legend photos in the Photo Gallery.

The Maverick KS Wing also has been improved, featuring new strutted airframe components.  We have increased the load rating of the wing, from 550 gross to 650 gross by a new airframe.  The increased load rating is especially helpful for pilots who like to fly on floats.  The Maverick KS wing has another feature for convenient travel or storage, the ability for the wing to fold back while attached to the trike.  Refer to the photos for examples of the new improvements on the Maverick Legend, the perfect single-place ultralight from North Wing.

We use only aircraft grade aluminum tubing throughout the trike frame.  Aircraft hardware and fasteners are also used on the Maverick 2.  The rear suspension uses a strong fiberglass pultruded axle with drag struts.  If you like to have a hand at building part of your trike, you may purchase the Maverick 2 trike and wing without the engine, propeller or gauges.

The Maverick 2 Trike is built with high ground clearance, so you can fly out of landing areas that are not perfect.
The leaf spring suspension provides great flex, more efficient than coil springs that cause recoil bouncing.  Main frame components are bolted together... no aluminum welding here.  The front fork is a trailing link style steering to ensure stable and solid tracking.  Leaf spring rear suspension comes from an airplane design using proven 7075 alloy.  The Maverick airframe will maintain its structural integrity for many years to come.  You can enjoy years of sturdy and confident flying knowing your North Wing Ultralight Aircraft has a rugged and well-designed airframe with superior suspension that will not wear out from every day use.

Brakes and Tires
We use the quality Black Max hydraulic disc brakes on the front wheel.  We can use just the front brake on an ultralight trike because an ultralight trike is much lighter in weight compared to our two-place Light Sport trikes.  The Maverick also comes with a parking brake, very nice on those windy days when you want to park your trike.  The Maverick 2 comes equipped with high quality 13"x 4" 6-Ply tires.

Engines
The Maverick 2 comes stock with the 38HP Kawasaki 440 engine, with 3-blade IVO propeller.  Take-off is 250 feet or under at MSL.  Electric Start is optional.  Optional engines are the 38HP Polini 303 and the powerful 50HP Minari Stratos engine for short take off of under 150 feet (@MSL).  Both come with Electric Start and Dual Ignition.  When flown with the standard Maverick KS wing and the 50HP Minari engine, climb-rate can achieve an impressive 1000 + fpm.

Fuel System
We use high quality fuel line that will last many years.  We also use a high quality pulse fuel pump to get the fuel to the engine consistently.  A primer pump system or choke is used to help the engine start as easy as possible.

Propeller
The standard propeller is made in the USA.  The propeller we use is the time-tested 3 blade, carbon Ivo Propeller.  The Ivo Prop comes with a center screw that, when turned, moves a cam adjusting all 3 blades at once, making this prop the easiest on the market.  Optional Propeller is the E-prop.  E-Prop is a lighter weight prop resulting in a smoother, quieter and quicker acceleration with 10% better climb rate.

Electrical
We use quality, large size wiring for all of our systems.  Our system is designed to minimize any electrical noise going to the dash that could affect radio communications.  This electrical system makes it very easy to add options such as strobes, position light, electric trim and radios.  All of these can come installed from the factory, with your choice of these options.  We also use high quality electrical regulator for the charging system.  Battery is a time-tested and safe lead acid.  You can also save a lot of weight by ordering the optional light weight lithium battery.  12-volt outlet for powering accessories is an option if you have a battery/electric start.  A single strobe for flying your ultralight trike 30 minutes after sunset can be added even without a battery.

Trike Construction
• Aircraft 6061-T6 main Trike frame.   • Aircraft 6061-T6 aluminum plates and fittings through out the trike frame.
• Upholstery is made of outdoor boating material for long life and durability.   • Rear wheel axles are made of high grade steel.   • 7075 Aircraft leaf spring rear landing gear   • Front Fork is a Trailing link suspension system.   • Hang Block, the main connection between the trike and wing is designed to withstand 10+ Gs!   • All aircraft hardware has AN Certification and is used on both the Wing and the Trike.

Wing Construction
• Wing is made of High Grade Aircraft Aluminum (6061 and 7075). The airframe is bolted together using plates and fittings.
No welding here in this highly important structure.   • Round Control Frame and Wing Struts.   • Optional: Airfoil shape Wing Strut and Control Frame, NWs exclusive airfoil strut design using an inner box spar for the highest strength.   • Sail (wing skin) is made of the best quality yachting sailcloth can buy with UV inhibitors.   • Heavy 8oz sail reinforcement are used throughout the sail for the highest strength.   • We use only the highest quality, large and strong UV treated Thread on our sails.   • We use High quality brand zippers.   • We bind all zipper openings so the cloth won’t snag on the zipper.   • Rib pockets are made of 5.5 oz Dacron material.

Comfort and pilot friendly
• Front Seat has a high back with internal support to give great back support for long flights.   • Control Bar is lower, making the hand position comfortable while also giving maximum control.   • The Front Fork can be moved forward or back for your comfort, whether you have short or long legs.   • The Mast is far behind your head so you can't hit your helmet on the mast like other trikes   • Easy-to-reach Cruise Throttle on center tube.  This allows RPM to be set for your long cruises.   • Tall Wind Shield (if you have the Half Fairing or Legend) provides great wind protection.   • Spring-assisted Mast help you raise the wing with only 1/5th the wings weight.   • As with our larger two-place trikes, we design the engine mount for a full power, level climb out.  You won't have to compensate and hold the control bar to the left to keep from banking and turning right as you climb.
• The wing folds back while on the trike to quickly store the aircraft in a trailer or fold the wings back in case of high winds and you can't find cover.

Handling & Performance
Whether you are on the ground taxiing, on a take off run or landing, the Maverick will feel solid and secure.  In the air that is no different, handling is stable and light even in afternoon conditions.  The Maverick KS wing has an incredible following of very happy pilots since 1997.  The Maverick KS Wing makes this a STOL Aircraft that has a very quick take-off run and climbs out at 500 to 1000 + fpm, depending on the engine and prop.  The Maverick KS wing with its snappy handling will allow you to land in places that would not be possible with other small, double surface wings.  With a nice in-flight speed range from 40 to 60 mph, you can really go places and see new things.

An RPM / Hobbs Meter and Dual CHT / EGT Gauges come as standard equipment.  The Maverick 2 Legend dash has ample room for additional gauges and switches.  Consider adding the optional EIS Gauge and Airspeed Gauge for additional important flight information. The comfortable Seat on the Maverick 2 Legend secures the pilot with a 4-point Seat Belt Harness.  You will appreciate the comfort of the seat during long flights.
